About Me

I am a leading planner and innovator in the non-profit, museum, science center, and informal learning fields. My specific interest lies in understanding how people learn, how organizations inspire learning, and the value that learning brings to individual lives and society.

I played a key leadership role in building Calgary’s TELUS Spark Science Centre and the Creative Kids Museum. I pioneered the current generation of technologically advanced planetarium theaters. My educational background includes an A.B. in Astronomy from the University of Southern California, an M.A. in the History and Philosophy of Science and Technology from the University of Toronto, and graduation from the Getty Museum Leadership Institute. In 2009, I received the Cascade Award for Outstanding Career Achievement from the Canadian Association of Science Centers. I have also served as the past president of the International Planetarium Society and the Alberta Museums Association.

I firmly believe that the key to project success is deeply rooted in its community, encompassing regional residents, tourists, stakeholders, supporters, staff, and volunteers. To achieve this, I have designed processes to help my clients thoughtfully consult with the community and stakeholder groups, enabling them to make confident, well-informed planning decisions.

In 2008, I established my own consulting business to advise non-profit and educational organizations. I offer inspiring and effective guidance in visioning, strategic planning, community consultation, project conceptualization, business modeling, governance, sponsorship, fund development, and recruiting professionals. My mastery of technology and best practices in museums, public observatories, planetariums, and science centers, coupled with a well-calibrated sense of what works for visitors and participants, allows me to provide clients with insightful decision support as they navigate major projects and organizational change. I occasionally join a project’s client team to contribute my expertise throughout the course of a project.

Throughout my career, I have guided the development of over $300 million worth of projects. Recent clients include MONOVA – The Museum of North Vancouver, TELUS Spark – Infinity Dome Renewal, Royal Astronomical Society of Canada – Calgary Public Observatory, Heureka – The Finnish Science Center, NOIRLab/Kitt Peak National Observatory, Yerkes Observatory, the Getty Museum Leadership Institute, the Ft. McMurray Heritage Society, the Sedona Arts Center, Lowell Observatory – Giovale Open Deck Observatory and Astronomy Discovery Center, the Perimeter Institute of Theoretical Physics, and the Vatican Observatory Foundation.
